Calgary Skyline, Circa 2007 | Memory Lane

by on June 8, 2016

Calgary, I miss you today.

Again.

The Calgary skyline, photographed November 2007, featuring the Calgary Tower and Saddledome.

Husky Tower | Calgary Tower (1971-present)

Whenever I had time to spare whilst living in Calgary, Alberta, I always made sure to find different ways of photographing the skyline and more importantly, the Calgary Tower. I was always looking at it from my office window on Blackfoot Trail and I’d drive my colleagues mad whenever I would joke the tower was shrinking. It clearly wasn’t losing height, but rather was being swallowed up by the booming construction in the downtown core. I’ve always had a soft spot for that awkward, yet fantastic tower since I was a kiddie.

What is really extraordinary about the skyline is how it looked in the late 70s / early 80s. The rocky mountain backdrop clear as day with the Calgary Tower standing well above the rest. Swoon.

Check out this great vintage postcard of the skyline (update: I changed links)! I’m waiting to hear back from my dad if he has any photos of the skyline when he lived in the city back in the early 80s. Stay tuned …

Until I’m back in you again, Calgary …

See you in the field.
